Be Honourable! News!

Friends!

I have no news to report, but i just thought i’d better update. A man on the street who was a retired accountant and loved to chat, gave me the following advice: “having a career enables you to work”. If i’m honest he was pretty abrasive and horrible.  I wonder if he reads this blog in addition to sitting on the street drinking wine?

I’m still enjoying my show a lot. The Bosco theatre is a dream place to perform and the crowds have been lovely.

I went to Lunar park yesterday and about 5 seconds into one of the rides a little girl behind me said in a small voice “I don’t like this one.” Her dad replied “There’s nothing we can do about it now”. And then silence.

Happy Easter, superdudes. I went on Alan Brough’s* ABC radio show this morning with Steampunk superstar and excellent comic Andrew O Neill and Indie favourite Josh Earl and I think you can hear it over the www if you’re fussed. We talked a bit about the BAKE OFF gig that I’ll be hosting on 10th April, at the Bosco, in the afternoon. It’s $10 if you bring a cake and there will be all kinds of prizes and surprises too. It’ll be a heavily food-based gig with special guests Josh, Maeve Higgins and Sarah Millican. Do come!

I came to your show last night and laughed till I coughed, but thought I should let you know that here in Australia the really cool kids with the handknitted brooches and the geek-chic glasses and cardigans are mostly Greens, not Socialists. Socialism says “trash the environment and give the proceeds to the poor” while the tories say “trash the environment and give the proceeds to the rich”. The Greens say cut out trashing the environment, and share, include everyone and stop fighting. More or less. I know in the UK the Greens are not so big, but here one in ten people vote Green, and in Tasmania it’s one in five.

I’m a Greens City Councillor these days, which is great, I get to vote for things like changing a million dollars worth of lightglobes to energy-efficient ones, building social housing, libraries, community gardens and bike paths, increasing recycling and giving grants to small fantastic community organisations. Also get to meet all kinds of people, all the fascinating local characters. So when you get sick of being a comedian, and if you’re still looking for meaning in your life and enjoying talking to strangers, why not stand for Hackney Council?

What a lovely message, i’m so glad you’re doing what you’re doing! The greens in the UK are doing better than ever before, they are within a whisper of getting one or possibly even two MP’s in and they have an MEP and quite a few local councillors spread about the place. It’s brilliant!

It’s a shame that the old fun park Wobbie’s World has closed down, it was one of Melbourne’s better loved attractions. We loved it because it was so terribly shite. Every single ride was terrible, it was like someone’s Dad built the entire park in his spare time.
Here’s an old ad for it so you can relive the glory:

It’s almost worse to see it and know i’ll never have it, than to have never known it existed!

First and foremost Josie you are truly amazing. I’d say the best female comedian going around. Hilarious! Oozing with charm and compassion. And that voice…..Please stay! If you, Daniel Kitson and Miranda Hart could collaborate on a show I’d ….I’d…..well probably nothing TOO drastic would happen but I’d certainly get a ticket and be confident in leaving with a split side and a sense that all was ok with the world.

And just on this whole Luna Park/Wobbies World thing. Who can resist Pissweak World? The Late Show did a series of sketches that I suspect are very closely based on poor old Wobbies World
